Google Photos now includes a digital watermark feature for the AI-generated images in its platform.

Google has introduced a new feature in the Reimagine tool in Magic Editor that will embed an “imperceptible, digital watermark” directly into images through Google Photos. This feature, powered by SynthID, aims to help identify AI-generated content quickly and easily. While minor AI edits may not be caught by SynthID, more significant alterations, such as turning a dark sky into a sunny day or removing an entire crowd, will be exposed.

The Reimagine tool is currently available on the Pixel 9 series in Google Photos, allowing users to transform images using text descriptions. This feature enables users to completely reimagine a photo, creating new and unique versions of the original image. Google also announced that they will be adding an “Edited with Google AI” data point to the metadata of images in Google Photos to further highlight AI-generated content.
