OnePlus has officially launched its Health Laboratory in Guangdong, China, with a focus on data analysis and user-centric approach to enhance well-being.
The lab is intended to enhance health technology in OnePlus products. It is equipped with top-of-the-line equipment for research and development, covering simulation of workout conditions, energy tracking, motion capture, and health-focused optical technology. Essentially, it serves as a playground for advancing wellness technology.
The grand opening of the Health Lab coincides with OnePlus’s upcoming release of its next-generation smartwatch.
With the new 4,840 square meter Health Lab, OnePlus is intensifying its efforts in smart health and wellness technology. This facility is dedicated to driving innovation for the OnePlus Health app and the Watch 2 and 2R product lines.
OnePlus’s Health Lab includes a specialized setup for testing aerobic exercises. The research and development zone can replicate various activities such as running, cycling, rowing, skiing, and more. It features 20 high-end simulators including cycling rigs, treadmills, rowing machines, and climbing machines, providing researchers with advanced tools.
Additionally, there is a 1,000-square-meter ball sports lab equipped with 24 infrared cameras for precise motion tracking.
The Health Lab is designed for research purposes, equipped with industry-standard equipment and various testing scenarios. For instance, the energy metabolism module utilizes a pulmonary function system to monitor oxygen consumption, calorie expenditure, and fat-burning efficiency, helping optimize algorithms for wearables through studying metabolic reactions in different individuals.
To enhance sports and health features, the lab also replicates real-world running and walking patterns across various simulated environments.
OnePlus initiated the construction of its Health Lab in early 2023, investing €13.5 million in establishing this state-of-the-art facility.
