Introducing the Apple Games app: Your personalized hub for gaming and connecting with friends
At the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple announced the Apple Games app—an innovative platform crafted to help gamers rediscover their favorites, explore new titles, and enhance shared experiences, even in single-player modes. The app centralizes all gaming activity, keeping players updated on significant events and updates, ensuring they stay connected to their gaming adventures.
What Developers Are Saying:
“With friends moving away, I miss knowing what they’re playing. The Games app provides a glimpse back into their gaming world. It’s also a fantastic tool for integrating social features directly into our gameplay with Puzzmo.” — Zach Gage, indie developer and cofounder of Puzzmo
“Incorporating challenges and a new social dimension is a substantial advancement for both developers and gamers. While we focus on gameplay, these features foster connections effortlessly, enhancing player engagement, especially for games like Thronefall.” — Glib Platonov, cofounder of Doghowl Games
“The Games app is a transformative tool for gameplay on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It enables us to design exclusive experiences for groups of friends. The new challenges feature integrates seamlessly with our games on Apple Arcade, including our latest title, WHAT THE CLASH?, making it incredibly fun!” — Tim Garbos, creative director and cofounder of Triband
The Games app is the optimal way to experience Apple Arcade, Apple’s subscription service featuring over 200 award-winning games suitable for all ages, including Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Sneaky Sasquatch, and Mini Motorways.
Launch Your Favorite Games, Discover New Ones
Players can easily access all the games they’ve ever downloaded from the App Store on their iPhone and iPad, as well as all their titles on Mac.
They can connect compatible game controllers for effortless navigation and immediate access to their games. Personalized recommendations based on gameplay history, friends’ activities, and Game Center features enhance the discovery experience.
Editorial collections within the app help players find exciting new titles, showcasing popular games like Balatro, Crashlands 2, and DREDGE. Apple Arcade subscribers will find curated selections highlighting the best games available in the service, maximizing their subscription experience.
Play Together
The Games app centralizes all Game Center friends and gaming groups, making collaborative gameplay easier than ever. Players can view shared gaming histories, compare achievements, and send invitations through any messaging app, enabling seamless entry into competitions or multiplayer matches.
With the introduction of challenges, players can compete in score-based face-offs with friends. Developers with Game Center leaderboards can include unique challenges tailored for close-knit friend groups. These challenges transform single-player experiences into shared adventures, creating opportunities for friendly competition.
Players can invite friends to challenges by selecting contacts, whether it’s a countdown to survive enemy waves in Thronefall or a race for the highest score in Skate City: New York’s weekly featured course, unlocking a new dimension of fun.
Stay Updated with In-Game Events
The Games app introduces features designed to keep players informed about the latest updates and must-see events. Game pages come alive, emphasizing recent activity and notifications relevant to each player’s interests, such as updates, live events, and friend activity.
