Today, Billie Eilish was named Apple Music’s Artist of the Year, celebrating her remarkable influence throughout 2024.
Following a historic second Academy Award win and two additional GRAMMY Awards for her song “What Was I Made For?” from Greta Gerwig’s film Barbie, Billie released her third studio album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. This album showcases her evolution as an artist, combining vulnerability with boldness and representing the best work of her career. Upon its release, it topped Apple Music’s all-genre albums chart in an impressive 138 countries.
Billie’s cultural impact continues to grow. She performed her hit “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” at the summer games’ closing ceremony in August, setting a record for her highest Shazam engagement to date. She also collaborated with Charli XCX on “Guess,” a summer favorite, and is currently headlining her sold-out HIT ME HARD AND SOFT tour, extending her stellar year into 2025.
This year, Billie has been nominated for seven more GRAMMY Awards, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Notably, she is the first artist to receive Apple Music’s Artist of the Year distinction twice, previously winning the inaugural award in 2019.
This achievement highlights not only Apple Music’s appreciation for Billie’s artistry but also the lasting impact of her creations. While her debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, introduced her as a teenage sensation — landing at No. 30 on Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums list in May — HIT ME HARD AND SOFT confirms her enduring presence in the music industry.
“From the moment we first heard ‘Ocean Eyes’ nearly a decade ago, we’ve been dedicated supporters of Billie’s work,” stated Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s senior director of Content and Editorial. “It’s truly special for a young artist to connect with so many listeners so quickly. Watching her growth this past year has been extraordinary; her voice and artistry have continued to resonate widely, and she has blossomed so bravely and authentically — all on her own terms.”
“Apple Music has supported my music and artistry from the very beginning, and I feel honored and humbled to receive the Artist of the Year recognition after all these years,” Billie shared with Apple Music.
