Apple launches Self Service Repair for iPad, expands repair programs

Apple has announced that iPad owners will now have access to Self Service Repair, providing them with repair manuals, authentic Apple components, troubleshooting sessions through Apple Diagnostics, tools, and rental toolkits. Starting tomorrow, support will be available for iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad Pro (M4), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad (A16), with components such as displays, batteries, cameras, and external charging ports included. This update is part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to expand repair services, enabling customers and independent repair providers to conduct out-of-warranty repairs and introducing new information about the Genuine Parts Distributor program.

“At Apple, we strive to create exceptional products that are built to last,” said Brian Naumann, Apple’s vice president of AppleCare. “With today’s announcement, we are pleased to extend our repair services to a wider range of customers, allowing them to prolong the lifespan of their devices while maintaining safety, security, and privacy.”

Launched in 2022, Self Service Repair gives consumers who feel confident in performing their own repairs access to the same manuals, authentic Apple parts, and tools found at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Service Providers. Expanding on Apple’s commitment to enhancing repair accessibility, Self Service Repair now supports 65 Apple products, including the newly released iPhone 16e, MacBook Air, and Mac Studio. Additionally, Canada will become the 34th country offering Self Service Repair this summer.
Today’s announcements also include expanded details about Apple’s Genuine Parts Distributor program. This recently introduced initiative enhances access for businesses that do not have a direct service relationship with Apple, addressing a significant demand in the repair market while providing customers with more choices. Through the Genuine Parts Distributor program, independent mobile repair technicians can purchase authentic Apple service parts and components from third-party distributors, including MobileSentrix in the U.S. and MobileSentrix and Mobileparts.shop in Europe. The program currently offers a variety of iPhone parts for repairs, such as displays, batteries, and charging ports, with iPad parts to be available starting tomorrow. Repair providers interested in more information can visit the program page.
