You Won’t Sacrifice Photo Quality After Editing with the Latest Google Photos Update

This week, Google announced an upgrade to Google Photos through a brief blog post, focusing on enhancements for photo editing, particularly for HDR images. Previously, editing HDR photos could compromise dynamic range and HDR metadata, but recent changes ensure that this crucial information remains preserved.

Tools like Unblur, Magic Eraser, and Portrait Light often led to a loss of contrast and highlights in HDR images. However, Google has assured users that HDR photos will retain their full dynamic range and HDR metadata even after applying these editing features.

Additionally, a new Ultra HDR editing tool allows users to adjust the brightness of their images.

With the Ultra HDR tool, you can fine-tune the brightness to achieve your desired look. Also noteworthy is the rebranding of the former “HDR” tool to “Tone,” which better aligns with its functionality.

Moreover, Google has introduced an option to upgrade SDR photos to HDR, enhancing them with brighter highlights, deeper contrast, and impressive clarity on HDR-capable displays.

These updates are already available for supported users of Google Photos.
