AirPods now more versatile with studio-quality audio recording and camera remote

Apple has announced exciting new features for the AirPods lineup, including studio-quality audio recording and a camera remote function for the AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and AirPods Pro 2. These enhancements will transform content creation and improve communication for users.

With the upgraded audio recording capabilities, creators such as interviewers, podcasters, and musicians can achieve professional-quality sound while recording on the go or in noisy environments, thanks to Voice Isolation technology. The H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and advanced computational audio contribute to clearer, more natural vocal sound during phone calls and video chats on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. These features are also compatible with the Camera app, Voice Memos, dictation in Messages, and various video conferencing applications.

The new camera remote feature simplifies content capture from a distance. Users can take photos or start/stop video recordings on their iPhone or iPad by pressing and holding the AirPods stem. This is particularly useful for anyone who enjoys performing while recording, allowing them to sync their actions with accompanying music effortlessly.

All these features can be tested starting today via the Apple Developer Program at developer.apple.com, with a public beta set to launch next month through the Apple Beta Software Program at beta.apple.com. The official release of the AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with ANC, and AirPods Pro 2 enhancements will be available this fall as a free firmware update for iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26. Please note that features may vary by language and region, and some functionalities might be subject to local laws. For more information on availability, visit apple.com.
