Google has announced exciting updates for Google Wallet users. Soon, users will be able to upload digital versions of US passports. Residents of Iowa, New Mexico, and Ohio will also have the ability to upload digital copies of their IDs and licenses. This expansion comes on the heels of Wallet’s recent support for uploading California licenses.
For those planning to use a digital passport for domestic flights, it’s recommended to check TSA’s map of supported states and airports. It’s advisable to bring a physical copy as well, just to be safe.
In addition to the passport support and new states getting digital license support, Google has also introduced expanded transit card options. US commuters can now add select prepaid commuter benefit cards to Google Wallet, starting with Edenred and HealthEquity.
Furthermore, users can now access passes on the web at wallet.google.com.
Most recently, Google has announced the rollout of ID pass in Wallet, allowing users to create and store a digital ID from a US passport. This can be used at select TSA checkpoints. Eligible users will have access in the coming weeks. The state of New Mexico has also confirmed that driver’s licenses and state-issued IDs are now available for mobile users. This update has been highly anticipated and is a positive step forward.
