WhatsApp has been implementing various changes to its platform recently, with the latest one being quite exciting.
As per the company’s blog post, starting today (July 16), users can now mark their favorite contacts or groups on the app, facilitating easy access to frequently messaged contacts.
The “Favorites” feature acts as a separate filter to organize chats with family or close friends in one tab. WhatsApp has also included this feature in the calling option, similar to speed dial on a phone. Favorites selected in the chats tab will also display in the calls tab, eliminating the need to search through call history or manually find contacts.
To add a contact or group to your favorites, simply select the “Favorites” filter in the chats screen or tap the “Add favorite” option after selecting from the calls tab. Additionally, users can add a chat to their favorites by long-pressing on the chat and selecting “Add to favorite” from the options. The messaging app mentions that users can manage their favorite contacts and groups by navigating to Settings > Favorites > Add to Favorite. You can also rearrange the order of these contacts at any time.
Earlier in February, WABetaInfo had discovered that WhatsApp was working on introducing a favorite contacts feature in a beta update. Currently, WhatsApp allows users to pin only three chats to the top of their chat list; however, the introduction of the Favorites tab addresses this limitation by enabling users to select as many favorite contacts or groups as they wish.
This feature is now accessible on iOS and Android versions starting today and will be gradually rolled out to all users in the following weeks.
Recently, WhatsApp announced its support for “Speaker spotlight,” which highlights the person speaking and brings them to the forefront during a screen share. It is also developing another feature called “Imagine me,” which enables users to create an AI-generated image of themselves using Meta AI’s chatbot. The process involves a text prompt that allows users to customize the image and place themselves in different settings.
