Apple has introduced visionOS 26, an extensive update that enhances the use of spatial technology with Apple Vision Pro. This update allows for deeply immersive and personalized user interactions. Key features include spatial widgets that seamlessly integrate into the user’s environment, lifelike Personas that are more expressive, and new APIs that offer exciting possibilities for developers, creators, and businesses.

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — With visionOS 26, everyday tasks are now more engaging. Users can experience stunning spatial scenes generated by AI, making photos come to life in new ways, and enjoy shared spatial activities with others in the same room. This version also supports content formats like 180-degree and 360-degree from brands such as Insta360, GoPro, and Canon. Additionally, enterprise APIs open the door for tailored experiences specifically designed for visionOS, and compatibility with PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers enhances gaming between devices.

“Apple Vision Pro has set new standards in spatial computing, and with visionOS 26, we’re excited to elevate that experience even further,” said Mike Rockwell, Apple’s VP of Vision Products Group. “This update introduces innovative methods for users to connect, explore, collaborate, and immerse themselves in content, with unique apps and widgets that enrich their surroundings.”

visionOS 26 transforms widgets into spatial elements that blend seamlessly into the user’s space and reappear each time Apple Vision Pro is used. These customizable widgets come in various styles, including Clock, Weather, Music, and Photos, allowing users to personalize their environment with pleasing visuals and easy access to essential information. The new generative AI algorithms allow spatial scenes to add depth to photos, providing users with immersive visuals that invite exploration from different angles. This feature is available in the Photos app, Spatial Gallery app, and browsing through Safari, enhancing interaction and engagement with content.

New Interaction Methods

VisionOS 26 allows for spatial browsing in Safari, enabling a distraction-free experience while users explore content. It supports 180-degree and 360-degree playback from various brands, enhancing the viewing experience of dynamic content. Additionally, compatibility with PlayStation VR2 Sense controller introduces new gameplay dimensions.
