Tom Hanks enhances “Greyhound” on Apple TV+ by incorporating a D-Day battle.

A Sequel to “Greyhound” is on the Way

Tom Hanks is set to navigate Apple TV+ back into the waters of WWII with a highly anticipated sequel to “Greyhound,” with filming expected to commence in early 2026.

Once again, Apple Original Films is collaborating with Hanks’ Playtone and director Aaron Schneider for the follow-up to the 2020 wartime thriller. Hanks will reprise his role as Captain Krause and is also on board as the writer.

This sequel will broaden the narrative beyond the Atlantic settings of the original film, bringing viewers from the beaches of Normandy to battles in the Pacific theater, as reported by Deadline.

Filming is scheduled to start in Sydney, Australia, in January 2026. The choice of location has faced criticism from U.S. crew advocates who argue that it perpetuates the outsourcing of production jobs, particularly as the industry rebounds from recent strikes.

The original “Greyhound,” adapted from C.S. Forester’s novel The Good Shepherd, premiered in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It depicted a newly promoted U.S. Navy commander leading a convoy across the Atlantic while dodging German U-boats.

Despite its modest budget, the film garnered praise for its swift pacing and immersive naval combat scenes.

This project enhances Apple’s expanding library of WWII dramas.

While a release date for the sequel has not yet been disclosed, the early 2026 filming timeline suggests it could launch in 2027. Discussions are reportedly ongoing to bring back key supporting cast members from the first film.

Supporting cast member Stephen Graham recently received accolades for his role in the Netflix film “Adolescence.”

This initiative adds to Apple’s growing collection of WWII dramas produced in partnership with Playtone, including the critically acclaimed limited series “Masters of the Air.”
