The transition to M5 Macs is set to begin in the fall.

The next MacBook Air could be the first model to feature an M5 processor.

The debut of M5-based devices from Apple is becoming clearer, with the transition likely starting in Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup.

A report from Bloomberg suggests that Macs with the M5 processor will begin releasing in the fall of 2025. Prior to that, M4-based MacBook Air models are expected as soon as March, followed by M4 updates to the Mac Studio and Mac Pro.

It is anticipated that the Mac Studio and Mac Pro updates may be announced around Apple’s WWDC event in June, with the transition to the M5 chip beginning in the fall.

The report also indicates that the M5 will be featured in new MacBook Pro models expected in the fall of 2025. Given the timing of past MacBook Pro updates, this aligns with expectations.

The M5 processor is projected to make its way to the iPad Pro in late 2025 or early 2026.

Other Mac models are likely to receive M5 updates as part of their regular release cycles, potentially including the Mac mini and iMac before the end of 2025.

Unlike the M4 chip cycle, which debuted in the iPad Pro before reaching Mac devices, the M5 is expected to first power the Mac lineup and potentially the next Apple Vision Pro revision.
