The renovation of Apple’s Siri is likely to be delayed beyond the initial timeline.

Siri is gaining a new animation around the edge of iPhone screens

Apple’s Siri advancements promised for 2025 were expected to arrive in April with iOS 18.4, but a new report casts doubt on that timeline.

Apple has not officially announced the release date for these advancements beyond a 2025 timeframe. These features were announced at WWDC 2024 and were said to be coming to iOS 18.

According to a new report by Bloomberg on Friday, Apple’s work on the advancements has encountered some obstacles. Some features planned for iOS 18.4 may be delayed until May or later.

Reportedly, internal testing of the improvements is not progressing smoothly. The features may be technically included in iOS 18.5 but disabled until Apple activates them at a later date.

Features like Personal Context Understanding, In-App Actions, and Onscreen Awareness will be delayed.

After the improvements, Siri will be able to better interpret commands and perform multiple steps. For example, a user can ask about a sports team and then follow up with “when do they play next?” and have Siri add that event to their calendar.

These improvements rely on app intents, which allow developers to provide specific app features for Siri to use directly.

More improvements for Siri and Apple Intelligence are expected to be announced for iOS 19 at WWDC 2025 in early June.
