The latest iOS update, version 18, introduces a new ‘Recovered’ photo album in the Photos app.

Apple adds a new way to recover lost or corrupt media in iOS 18

Apple will introduce a new feature in the upcoming fall operating system updates, allowing users to recover lost or damaged photos. Beta participants can already test out this feature.

According to Apple, devices running iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS Sequoia will automatically identify lost or damaged photos and videos. Users can choose to delete them permanently or restore them to the Photos library.

The “Recovered” album will only be visible on a user’s device if there are images not in the Photos library. If no corrupt or missing images are found, the album will not appear.

Along with the new media recovery tool, Apple has also included other new features in its Photos app as part of the iOS 18 updates. This includes a Clean Up tool that allows users to select objects in an image and remove them using Apple’s on-device AI software.
