The iPhone XS and iPhone XR may not be compatible with iOS 19.

iOS 19 will be announced during WWDC 2025

According to a new rumor, Apple may drop support for three iPhone models in iOS 19, contradicting a previous rumor.

Despite having numerous iPhone models worldwide, Apple continues to provide regular OS and security updates. A December rumor indicated that Apple would maintain its compatibility list for iOS 19, but a recent rumor suggests otherwise.

The latest rumor, first reported by 9to5Mac, claims that iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR will not be supported in iOS 19. The same source also mentioned that the seventh-generation iPad would not be compatible with iPadOS 19.

If the rumor holds true, the following device families will be compatible with iOS 19.

Likewise, the following iPad generations are rumored to be supported for iPadOS 19.

The reliability of the anonymous leaker adds credibility to the rumor, although one inconsistency stands out.

While the three iPhones to be dropped run on the A12 Bionic chip, many base iPads rumored to run iPadOS 19 also feature the A12 Bionic chip. The reason why Apple would discontinue support for iPhones with A12 but not iPads with A12 remains unclear, especially given the similarity between iOS and iPadOS.

One possibility is that Apple is considering specific specs unrelated to the chipset, or a new feature in iOS 19 may have an A13 cutoff for iPhones but not iPads.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 at WWDC 2025 on June 9, with the updates slated for a public release in September following a summer beta period.
