The Google Play Store may undergo significant changes following a recent ruling by a new judge.

Epic Games has been in a legal battle with Apple and Google for years over their app store policies. While the dispute with Apple has been resolved, the fight with Google continues. A jury recently ruled Google Play to be an illegal monopoly, and now a judge has issued a final warning that could lead to significant changes for Google.

The details of the changes are complex, but they could include allowing third-party app stores to exist within Google Play for 3 years, giving developers more freedom regarding payment options and app distribution. These changes could come into effect as soon as November if the judge does not grant Google a delay.

Google has stated they will appeal the ruling and seek to pause the implementation of the remedies. Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, has also commented that the legal battle will continue globally despite the US court’s decision.
