Switching from iPhone to Android is now simpler than ever with iOS 19.

Switching to Android Made Easier with eSIM Transfer

A new feature enabling eSIM wireless transfer from iPhone to Android has surfaced in the Android 16 beta, hinting that Apple may unveil it for iOS 19 at WWDC 2025.

The transition from iPhone to Android has become more user-friendly over the years, thanks to collaborative efforts from Apple and Google. This latest feature aims to address one of the significant challenges in the switch.

Code identified by Android Authority‘s Mishaal Rahman in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 reveals that the Google SIM Manager app includes references to a function that aids users in transferring their eSIM from iPhone to Android. Notably, it introduces a “Transfer to Android” option in the iOS Settings app under General, Transfer or Reset iPhone.

This feature is expected to be announced as part of iOS 19 during WWDC, although Apple could opt to roll it out sooner through an iOS 18 update. While it may seem minor, it holds significant value for users switching ecosystems.

Currently, moving from iPhone to Android is facilitated by existing data transfer systems developed by both companies. However, the eSIM must be manually transferred, requiring interaction with the eSIM provider.

The new process will generate a QR code on the iPhone, which the Android device can scan to wirelessly transfer the eSIM—similar to how Android-to-Android transfers operate today.

iPhone users have a straightforward method for eSIM transfers during device upgrades, making this new feature the first to streamline cross-platform transitions.

Currently, there’s no indication that a similar feature for transferring from Android to iPhone will be introduced. However, it may eventually be seen in a future update via Apple’s Move to iOS app on the Google Play Store.
