Essential Information
- Spotify’s recent announcement introduces an enhanced “Queue” experience, allowing Premium subscribers to manage their songs more effectively.
- The platform is testing a new “Snooze” feature that temporarily hides specific songs from playlists.
- Mobile app playlists will highlight better options for adding, editing, and creating content.
On May 8, Spotify unveiled three new initiatives aimed at enhancing the music discovery experience within its app.
In a blog update, Spotify shared the rollout of several enhancements and a new test that users can anticipate. These updates are meant to empower users, placing them “in the driver’s seat” of their music choices and discovery. The upgrade process starts with Premium subscribers, who will see improvements to the “Queue.”
The announcement highlights a visual refresh for the Queue, making options like Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, Repeat, and Sleep Timer more accessible. Premium users will also see Spotify’s recommendations in their Queue after their selected tracks finish playing.
Spotify’s recommendations will appear if users have enabled Smart Shuffle or Autoplay, though these features can be easily turned off in the settings.
The testing phase for Premium users includes an updated Hide button alongside the new Snooze option. The Hide button now removes a song from playlists across all synced devices, while the Snooze button provides a “temporary” 30-day break from a specific song.
These features are being gradually rolled out to Premium subscribers, with plans to expand access to a wider audience.
Playlist Enhancements & Collaborations
In addition to these features, Spotify is enhancing playlist customization options, particularly for mobile users. New management tools are being introduced, allowing users to easily Add, Sort, and Edit their playlists from the top.
Additionally, users who frequently add songs to their “Liked Songs” will soon have the option to create a playlist from that collection. Spotify will introduce a feature to filter music by genre and an option to transform Liked Songs into a playlist. This feature is rolling out to users in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the U.K., and the U.S.
Another exciting feature in the Spotify app is the Create Button, marked with a plus icon at the bottom-right corner of your screen. This button will house options for playlist creation, collaborations with friends, and joining a Blend. Premium users in supported markets will also gain access to Spotify’s Jam and AI Playlists through this button.
Spotify’s AI Playlists, which began testing last year, allow users to create playlists based on their words. The platform provides pre-made suggestions to help users who may not know where to start. Spotify encourages creativity and invites users to see what the AI generator can come up with. The blog post also noted the expansion of AI Playlists to an additional 40 markets last month, broadening accessibility for more listeners.
