Users who have received the Google Pixel 9 series are encountering difficulties with its wireless charging functionality.

According to reports on Google’s Pixel community forum, highlighted by Tech Issues Today and 9to5Google, users have been expressing concerns about their Pixel 9 Pro XL. One user mentioned experiencing strange behavior when wirelessly charging using a MagSafe puck and a Mous MagSafe case. The phone would initially start charging but then stop shortly after.

Attempts to charge the device with a MagSafe Qi charger resulted in inconsistent charging and increased heat generation in the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Another user listed five different wireless chargers that failed to work reliably.

One user tried charging their Pixel 9 Pro XL with Google’s second-generation stand, but the device failed to charge despite recognizing the stand. The user noted that the charging icon appeared on the screen, indicating that it was charging, but in reality, it was not.

If you are facing similar issues, contacting Pixel support is recommended. Some users have received confirmation from Google that they are aware of the wireless charging problems and are actively working on a solution. In the meantime, using a wired charger or following the tips provided by support may help.

It’s worth mentioning that some users have also reported wireless charging issues with the smaller Pixel 9 Pro, although the number of reports is lower compared to the XL version.

With the Pixel 9 series now in the hands of consumers, these wireless charging issues are proving to be a frustrating setback for Google’s flagship smartphones. Similar problems have been observed with previous devices like the Pixel 8 Pro, which faced USB-C charging port issues. The Pixel 6 Pro also encountered charging problems during its release.

It’s uncertain how long it will take for Google to address the wireless charging issue. A software update is expected to resolve the problem, potentially arriving in September.

The Pixel 9 Pro XL was released on August 13 alongside the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, boasting a 6.8-inch display, an upgraded Tensor G4 SoC, and numerous Gemini features.
