It should come as no surprise to those familiar with the Google Pixel phone saga that the Pixel 9a will receive the same level of support as the most recent devices, going back to the Pixel 8 series. In today’s Pixel 9a announcement, Google confirmed that this new mid-range device will join the exclusive club of phones receiving an extended period of updates, surpassing most other devices in the industry.
So, what does this mean for Pixel 9a updates? The Pixel 9a is set to receive 7 years of OS and security updates, along with new features and enhancements from Pixel Feature Drops.
This lines up with Google’s update policy for devices such as the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 8a, as well as the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. All these devices will enjoy 7 years of updates from their initial availability on the Google Store in the US.
While the Pixel 9a isn’t available for purchase or pre-order just yet (with a slight delay), it’s worth noting that a $499 phone will receive the same number of updates as a $1,099 phone.
