Polestar made an early commitment to Android Automotive as their in-car infotainment solution, but there have been limitations to their implementation. Responding to feedback, Polestar is now offering Polestar 2 owners the option to use Android Auto alongside Android Automotive.
Android Automotive is the base operating system for cars, customized by car companies, while Android Auto is a projection experience from a connected phone. The update to enable Android Auto in the Polestar 2 (version P3.3.16) allows for a more user-friendly interface with access to more apps and regular updates.
This update, which also includes improvements to the driving experience at low speed and the introduction of HD radio, is expected to be available via over-the-air update for 2021 models. This change is a response to customer demand and aims to enhance the overall user experience in Polestar 2 vehicles.
