A new contender is entering the smart glasses market soon: Oakley has officially unveiled the Oakley Meta HSTN AI glasses. Set to launch alongside Ray-Ban’s Meta glasses, these stylish shades cater to those looking for more functionality and a sporty Oakley aesthetic.
Price of Oakley Meta Glasses: The first model will be available starting July 11, featuring a Limited Edition color called “Desert 24K Prizm Polar,” priced at $499. Additional color options are anticipated to be released later this summer for $399.
Essentially, the Oakley Meta glasses mirror the much-loved design of the Ray-Ban models but with distinct Oakley branding. This isn’t a critique; it’s simply to note that the specifications are comparable, differing mainly in style.
Features include IPX4 water resistance, 12MP cameras, battery life extending up to 8 hours (with an added charging case providing an extra 48 hours), open-ear speakers, a microphone, a touchpad for controls, and a physical camera shutter button (though most functions can be controlled via voice). A notable enhancement is the ability to record in 3K video instead of just 1080p.
For those who have followed us, it’s clear that both Tim and I are fans of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. They serve as our everyday sunglasses, and we frequently recommend them for their photography capabilities and superior audio experience.
The AI features are also noteworthy. Utilizing AI, you can identify objects, set timers, send texts, make calls, recognize information (like phone numbers on signs), and even have reminders created. They can link to your Spotify or Amazon Music, identify songs through Shazam, and integrate with apps like WhatsApp and Instagram.
Ray-Ban Meta glasses are one of the best smart accessories I’ve collected over the years, which fuels our excitement for Google’s upcoming smart glasses. For the time being, Meta’s offerings hold the top spot, and soon, you’ll be able to grab a pair with Oakley’s signature style.
