TechRadar rates it with 4.5 starts out of 5. They love it specifically for it super cheap price, large and expansive screen and loads of innovation. They didn’t love in particular the absence of a front facing camera, the average battery and the fact that it has no NFC or compass. They concluded that its a very good attempt to provide a cheap version of the Lumia 620, it does everything it promises, and does some pretty good for its price range. The Lumia 520 is a jack or all trades and a master of few.

Wired concludes that it has a fine screen, a fast processor and like other Lumias it’s built to last. If you want to try Windows, but don’t want to risk too much cash, the 520 will give you the flavour without the expense and deliver just as good a performance as some of its more expensive cousins. In fact, if you’re not too fussed about the camera (which still isn’t bad) or Skype video calls it’s better value for money than either the 620 or the 720.

Pcmag pointed out its major selling point as being a cheap, compact, capable windows phone that has an easy-to-use interface. The fact that there is not front-facing camera and a mediocre rear facing camera , with a not too fast HSPA+ and the relative lack of app on Windows were points they found not too friendly. They concluded that the Nokia Lumia 520 is a solid introductory smartphone , provided photography isn’t a priority.
TechAdvisor

“If you’re looking for a cheap smartphone, you may have just found it. The Nokia Lumia 520 doesn’t tick all the boxes on our features wishlist, but it capably handles those that are most important. Windows Phone 8 is a beautiful operating system, but it still lacks apps. If you can get past this and don’t mind sacrificing some performance and connectivity, the Lumia 520 is a strong budget buy.”

TrustedReviews listed the Lumia 520’s strength as: top performance for price, neat design and excellent value. Pointed out demerits include its highly reflective screen, no camera flash, mediocre physical shutter button. They gave the phone 8 out of 10.

Our Take.

The Nokia Lumia 520 is a budget phone that will definitely serve its users well. All demerits pointed out can actually be excused when its price is taking into consideration. If you just was a very reliable phone that runs on Windows, this will definitely serve you.
