Mobvoi is once again lagging behind as Wear OS 4 becomes available on the TicWatch Pro 5 series, just as excitement for Wear OS 5 builds.

What you need to know

  • Mobvoi has started rolling out its Wear OS 4 update for TicWatch Pro 5 and Pro 5 Enduro owners after a long wait.
  • The update introduces two new features and several enhancements for TicExercise and TicMotion.
  • Despite being late, Mobvoi is finally bringing its Wear OS 4 update to Pro 5 owners, while everyone is anticipating Wear OS 5.

Finally, Mobvoi has begun rolling out its significant Wear OS 4 update for all TicWatch Pro 5 series owners.

In a blog post, Mobvoi announced that the Wear OS 4 update is now arriving on the TicWatch Pro 5 and Pro 5 Enduro. These watches have been running Wear OS 3.5 for a significant time, and this new OS release brings new features. Mobvoi mentions that both watches are set to receive “Backup and Restore.”

This feature allows users to seamlessly “backup your data and settings from your old watch while keeping all of your data, settings, and watch faces in place.” Phone Transfer is also available, allowing users to transition their watch from one phone to another without factory resetting it.

The Wear OS 4 update includes a wide range of enhancements for the TicWatches, starting with TicExercise. Users can now access 25 new exercises on their devices, including hiking, pickleball, CrossFit, and stair stepper. Additional data for outdoor exercises will now include GPS, distance, and speed.

Customizable workout lists, auto-pause, UI changes, and improved calorie calculation have also been introduced.

TicMotion has also received enhancements for cycling detection, enhanced data detection, and the ultra-low power display now shows a workout tile.

Mobvoi has confirmed that the Wear OS 4 update includes the latest September 2024 patch for both Pro 5 watches. The update has started rolling out on September 3, but it may take some time to reach all watches.

TicWatch owners have been impatient with the continuous wait for Wear OS updates from Mobvoi. The company was slow in releasing Wear OS 3, and now Wear OS 4 is finally arriving. Mobvoi initiated the beta phase for the software earlier this year in April.

Users of TicWatch watches were late to receive Wear OS 4, which originally launched a year ago. The anticipation for Wear OS 5 is growing, signaling that Google is aiming for more consistency in its Wear OS ecosystem. This could lead to major yearly updates, but time will tell how it unfolds.

This progress indicates that Mobvoi will need to step up its game in the future.
