Is there anything I need to do to make sure my phone works while traveling (and doesn’t cost me a lot of money)?
T.J. asks:
I’m taking a vacation to Turkey, Greece, and Italy for a few weeks and this is the first time I’ll be traveling without my work phone. Will my Galaxy S23 work without costing me an arm and a leg in international roaming fees from AT&T? Is there anything I should do before I leave to make sure?
Thanks
Hi T.J.! Enjoy your trip to Turkey, Greece, and Italy, soaking up the Mediterranean sun while some of us are stuck in winter weather on the East Coast. To address your concern, you might consider using a local pre-paid SIM card in your Galaxy S23 to avoid high international roaming charges.
If your phone is region-locked, unlocking the radio bands may be necessary to use a local SIM card. This process can be done by your carrier, but you can also explore options like Google Fi for a hassle-free mobile service in multiple countries without additional fees.
Unlocking the radio frequencies through the phone’s service menu can be done manually, offering an alternative to paying high roaming fees. For a stress-free experience, services like Google Fi are convenient for international use without hidden charges.
Ensure your network connection is active, and your phone will adjust settings automatically while traveling. Have a great trip!
