Google has confirmed that they are extending the years of support on some older Pixel devices as part of this month’s December Pixel update. The Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold will now receive another 2 years of OS updates. The Google Support page that tracks the schedule and years of support for each Pixel device has been updated to reflect this change. Previously, these devices were expected to receive 5 years of security updates but only 3 years of Android OS version updates. However, Google has now changed the wording to indicate that all three devices will receive 5 years of both security and OS updates. This means that the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold will now receive updates for 5 years from the device’s initial release. This update also includes new and upgraded features through Pixel Drops. This change allows the Pixel 6 line to potentially receive updates up to Android 17, extending its support beyond what was previously expected.
