Concept designs for the upcoming iPhone 17 based on earlier leaks
A leaker has diverged from the consensus, claiming that the standard iPhone 17 will retain the A18 chip, while the other models in the lineup will feature variants of the A19 chip.
Most leakers agree that the entire iPhone 17 series—including the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro—will be equipped with the A19 chip, albeit with varying RAM capacities.
In a recent note to investors, Jeff Pu from GF Securities has revised his earlier predictions, now asserting that the standard iPhone 17 will continue to use the A18 processor found in the iPhone 16 series.
Pu has also adjusted his stance on the Face ID sensor technology, now suggesting that an upgraded lens system will be included across the entire iPhone lineup, contrary to his earlier claim that it would be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Additionally, his forecasts for RAM have shifted slightly. He now states that while the iPhone 17 will maintain its 8GB of RAM, the iPhone 17 Air will also feature 8GB instead of the previously predicted 12GB. The pro models are still expected to have 12GB of RAM.
It’s worth noting that Pu’s reliability has been questionable. While the movement back to the A18 seems sensible and mirrors the pattern from the iPhone 15 series, this is the first instance of any source suggesting this possibility for the iPhone 17.
Other more established leakers, known for their accuracy, have previously contested many aspects of Pu’s latest claims. For instance, a reputable display chain insider stated on May 29 that the iPhone 17 will feature a 6.3-inch display, while Pu continues to predict a 6.1-inch size.
As with all deviations from mainstream rumors, there’s often a wave of “me too” reporting following a contradictory claim. It remains to be seen how other insiders will respond to this latest information.
