iPadOS 26 Launches with Advanced Features, Enhancing iPad’s Capabilities
Apple has unveiled iPadOS 26, the most significant update to the platform yet, designed to elevate the iPad’s versatility and functionality. This new version features an updated design, a powerful windowing system, enhanced file management, and innovative multimedia capabilities—all while remaining user-friendly.
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — Today, Apple introduced iPadOS 26, marking a transformative leap in the iPadOS experience. The refreshed design enhances visual appeal, making the device more engaging and expressive. The update features a groundbreaking windowing system that allows users to better manage, organize, and navigate applications, providing a seamless multitasking experience. Enhanced Apple Intelligence includes powerful new features to facilitate communication and creativity, such as Live Translation, customizable Genmoji, and intelligent actions using Shortcuts.
The improved Files app now offers advanced organization options and customizable folders, while the new Preview app enables users to view and edit PDFs with integrated Apple Pencil features. Additionally, iPadOS 26 introduces capabilities for creative professionals, including enhanced audio and video workflow options.

Enhanced Design
The redesigned interface offers a more engaging user experience while retaining the essential familiarity of iPadOS. Utilizing innovative Liquid Glass material, it provides a dynamic and personalized feel across various interface elements. New app icons and customizable Home Screen options allow for tailored aesthetics in both light and dark settings. Updates to apps like Mail, Safari, Apple TV, and Apple Music continue to enhance user engagement.
Robust Windowing System
iPadOS 26 introduces an intuitive new windowing system that enables users to effortlessly manage app windows. Users can resize, minimize, and arrange windows with ease, ensuring a streamlined workflow. The new Exposé feature allows for quick visibility of all open windows, facilitating swift navigation.
Apple Intelligence Integration
Apple Intelligence has been further refined, introducing sophisticated capabilities such as seamless Live Translation in Phone, FaceTime, and Messages. Users can communicate effortlessly across different languages and enjoy enriched features for creative expression through Genmoji and Image Playground.
Advanced File Management
The updated Files app brings enhanced organization options, such as customizable folders and improved viewing layouts. Users can now drag folders directly to the Dock for easier access, and set default apps for various file types.
Introduction of Preview App
The Preview app is now available on iPad, allowing for easy PDF editing and markup using Apple Pencil. Users can create sketches, fill PDF forms with AutoFill, and access all their files directly within the app.
Enhanced Audio and Video Features
iPadOS 26 takes advantage of Apple silicon to support computationally intensive Background Tasks, providing users with real-time insights during long-running processes. New audio features enhance control over microphone selection and incorporate Voice Isolation for clearer recordings.
New Apps and Communication Enhancements
The new Journal app allows users to document experiences creatively with sketches, photos, and mood tracking. iPadOS 26 also debuts Apple Games, a dedicated hub for gaming enthusiasts. The Messages app now includes personalized conversation backgrounds, polls, and enhanced group chat features.

- A new reed pen introduces calligraphy capabilities with Apple Pencil.
- Calculator’s Math Notes now supports 3D graphing.
- Notes improves compatibility with markdown files and transcriptions for Phone app conversations.
- Accessibility enhancements include a new reading mode and user-friendly Braille Access.
Availability
