In 2025, Charles is gearing up for a major technology upgrade with all-new Apple equipment.

Charles is a big fan of his older Apple gear, but he is preparing for some changes in 2025. He mainly works on weekends as a Weekend Editor at AppleInsider, so his setup is simple compared to full-time employees. Charles values versatility for travel since he is often on the go for work or doing tech classes online. His trusty MacBook Pro, an Intel-based model from 2019, serves as the center of his writing setup. Despite not having the latest M-series chip, it still runs smoothly for his tasks.

Charles uses his MacBook Pro for writing, research, photo editing, and website work. He also keeps a Lenovo laptop for Windows support, as he assists clients outside of the Apple ecosystem. His setup includes a 4K external monitor, Apple Bluetooth trackpad, hubs for extra ports, and essential software like Byword, Pixelmator Pro, Luminar, and Safari.

When on the move, Charles relies on his second-gen 11-inch iPad Pro for lighter workloads. Paired with a Magic Keyboard, a travel bag, and essential gear, it’s all he needs for travel. He also uses AirPods Pro for noise cancellation and hearing protection while on the go.

Looking ahead to 2025, Charles is considering upgrading his aging Apple devices. He recently upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro and is eyeing the M4 Mac mini or MacBook Pro for his main computer. He also plans to upgrade his iPad Pro and potentially replace his HomePods with a newer model. Despite the cost, Charles prioritizes staying up to date with technology to continue providing technical support to his friends and relatives.
