I initially criticized the Pixel 9 series right after its launch, accusing Google of not making significant improvements with the latest devices. However, after using the Pixel 9 Pro XL for two weeks, I must admit that I was wrong – Google has made substantial changes to the phone that are evident in everyday use.

The most noticeable change is in the build quality; the Pixel 9 Pro XL features a new design language with a squarish look and flat sides, resembling an iPhone. However, the phone feels much better in hand than its predecessors, with improved weight distribution and structural rigidity.
Previously, Pixel devices were known for their fragility, but the Pixel 9 Pro XL proved its durability after surviving a few accidental drops. Additionally, Google has enhanced the quality of ports and buttons, bringing the build quality in line with other top Android phones.

To address past overheating issues, Google incorporated a vapor chamber and aggressive power limits in the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Although it may not match Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 devices in gaming performance, the phone excels in thermal management, staying below 42 degrees even under heavy load.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL stands out with its exceptional thermal performance, maintaining a cool temperature even under heavy use. This phone may not be the best for gaming, but it offers smooth performance in day-to-day tasks compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 8 Pro.
Furthermore, the multitasking experience on the Pixel 9 Pro XL has been significantly improved compared to the Pixel 8 Pro, allowing for more active background apps without any issues. Google’s efforts in addressing earlier hardware shortcomings are evident in this latest iteration of the Pixel series.
However, there are still areas that Google needs to address. The Pixel 9 Pro XL suffers from slow saving of portrait shots to the gallery and shutter lag, making it challenging to take consecutive portrait shots compared to other high-end phones.
After taking numerous photos with the Pixel 9 Pro XL, it’s evident that Google needs to upgrade the camera hardware. While excelling in software tuning, the phone lacks the camera quality found in competing high-end devices such as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Vivo X100 Ultra, or the Magic 6 Pro.
Google’s software remains exceptional, with significant AI improvements on the Pixel 9 Pro XL. While many brands offer AI features, Google stands out with meaningful additions that enhance user experience.
Compared to the Pixel 8 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL boasts improved overall hardware quality, ensuring a consistent experience throughout the device. Google has addressed past hardware deficiencies, making the Pixel 9 Pro XL a significant upgrade over its predecessors.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL has much better build quality than its predecessor, and Google made a lot of small changes to the hardware that are noticeable in daily use.
