How to hard reset HTC using Physical Keys

htcI recently had to help a friend hard reset his HTC mobile phone after he was looked out when a “friend” attempted to override his pattern lock security. Apart of saving him money, I did it when he needed it to be done because he would have waited till the following morning before taking it to a technician. The relieve on his face made me decided to put this up here so it can be of use to other internet users.

This method should also work for most phones running on Android. If you are passing off your phone to someone or your phone develops a pertinent problem that can not be solved you might want to consider this too. Factory reset is not a step to be taken lightly. It’ll permanently delete all your data and customized settings, and will remove any apps you’ve downloaded and installed. Be sure to back up any data and files you want to keep before you do a factory reset.

Performing a factory reset via settings

The most convenient way to do a factory reset is via the settings.

  1. On the Start screen, slide to the left.
  2. Tap Settings > about.
  3. Tap reset your phone, and then tap yes.

If you can’t turn your phone on or access settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the phone’s buttons.

  1. Turn the power off.
  2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button. Release the VOLUME DOWN button when you see an icon on the screen.

  4. On some keys,  you can just use the VOLUME DOWN and VOLUME UP keys to move the cursor to “HARD RESET” option on the screen and select using the POWER key
