MacBook Pro 14-inch M3: A great display
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 processor now supports clamshell mode and dual external displays with the latest macOS Sonoma 14.6 update.
Previously, the 13-inch MacBook Air with M3 processor was the first model to support dual displays in clamshell mode. Now, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 has also been updated to include this feature.
With this update, the MacBook Pro with M3 processor can display full native resolution on the built-in screen along with a 6K external display refreshing at 60Hz. In Clamshell mode, the internal display can be replaced with a 5K display refreshing at up to 60Hz.
While the MacBook Air with M3 processor may not support dual Pro Display XDR units, it can support one. The cost difference between the displays and the hardware may deter some users from using dual 6K displays, but it is still an option for those who desire it.
All external monitors will need to be connected to the Thunderbolt ports. Using a Thunderbolt dock is recommended for easy connectivity and power supply to both monitors and peripheral devices connected to the MacBook Air.
