Govee has created an innovative portable table lamp that features a built-in JBL speaker, and it’s really impressive!

At the beginning of the year, Govee unveiled an array of intriguing devices, and they’re now starting to hit the market. One standout product is their new table lamp, which combines the usual vibrant lighting effects and extensive customization capabilities typical of Govee’s lineup with the added functionality of a portable Bluetooth speaker.

In collaboration with JBL, the product is officially named Table Lamp 2 Pro x Sound by JBL. For simplicity, I’ll refer to it as the Table Lamp 2 Pro. It certainly meets expectations, featuring 210 RGB LEDs that can be controlled through your phone, along with a 2.5-inch full-range driver from JBL that offers solid audio performance.

It also includes a 5,200mAh battery, making it inherently portable. While it is somewhat bulky, the integrated battery enhances its versatility. Priced at $179, you have the option to purchase two units and create a stereo pair.

Now, let’s dive into the design. This table lamp features an acrylic exterior that evenly diffuses light, with a clear finish on the bottom quarter that enhances its aesthetic appeal. There’s a set of controls atop the lamp, allowing you to switch it on or off, cycle through lighting modes, and adjust the music playback and volume for the integrated speaker.

The speaker grille is conveniently located on top, allowing easy Bluetooth connectivity with your phone if you prefer to use it primarily as a speaker. On that note, the sound quality is commendable; the mid-range is impressive, and the treble is decent. However, it lacks robust low-end performance, missing the deep rumble typically found in many portable speakers.

While there is some mid-bass present, it lacks any noticeable sub-bass, likely due to the constrained design and limited acoustic space. For those seeking a Bluetooth speaker with engaging bass, this may not be your best bet. However, the sound doesn’t distort at higher volumes, which is a plus. I had no trouble connecting to my Vivo X200 Pro, X200 Ultra, and Honor Magic V3.

Govee excels in the lighting aspect as well; the LEDs shine brightly, offering over a hundred different scenes to choose from. You can even adjust the lighting effects dynamically based on the music playing, and the lamp performs quite well in this mode.

While the lamp offers considerable versatility in lighting adjustments, the audio features are less customizable, lacking an equalizer or presets to fine-tune the sound to your liking. Nevertheless, apart from the limited bass response, the audio performance is generally satisfactory.

I was unable to test the stereo functionality as I had only one unit, but I wouldn’t recommend this lamp as a primary music listening device. Regardless of this shortcoming, there are few downsides; the LEDs are sufficiently bright that I rarely needed to go above 50% brightness, and the diffused lighting is a standout feature.

Connectivity options are solid; the lamp functions well as a Bluetooth speaker, and the lighting system connects to your home network (on the 2.4GHz band). It is Matter-compatible, allowing control via Google Assistant or Alexa, and it supports LAN control if you use Home Assistant.

The included 5,200mAh battery provides extensive portability, though I’m cautious about taking it outdoors. While it works as a party speaker, it lacks the ruggedness typically associated with outdoor Bluetooth speakers. The lamp features a variety of lighting effects with accompanying sounds, and I primarily used it as ambient lighting.

In conclusion, this table lamp shines as a Bluetooth speaker, with its portability providing a unique advantage. Although it retails for $179, you’re essentially investing in a multifunctional device.
