Google’s Circle to Search is showcasing an early demo of its ‘Audio Search’ feature.

What you need to know

  • An early demo following an APK dive surfaces additional details regarding Google’s “Audio search” for Circle to Search.
  • Details in the Google app’s recent beta shows that Circle to Search can listen in on your device’s music while also accepting humming and singing for queries.
  • Other information states that Google plans on bringing a split screen mode to Circle to Search for Pixel devices.

Google continues to develop more AI software for its Pixel 9 series; however, there are more updates to its convenient search feature.

We have been anticipating Circle to Search to include audio lookup, and a demo by Android Authority demonstrates this feature. An APK dive into the latest beta version (15.32.36) of the Google app reveals how “Audio Search” may work in a stable release.

From the demo, activating Circle to Search will display a new music note beside the search text box. Tapping it overlays a graphic on top of your current display. If you have music playing on Spotify or another service, Circle to Search will use that for your query.

The software listens for a few seconds before transitioning your display to the search results in the Google app. The song’s title will also appear in the text field at the top.

Furthermore, the latest beta build adds to previous suspicions by indicating the company’s intention to allow users to “sing or hum” a song on this screen. This is akin to “Search a Song” in the Google app or YouTube Music, accessible by hitting the microphone icon or Search in the latter app. Users can play, hum, or sing a song for music-based queries.

In June, it was speculated that Google was working on an audio lookup feature for Circle to Search. At that time, the feature was quite basic, only showcasing a glimpse of the music note icon that would indicate its availability. Additionally, it does not appear that Google will allow users to add a text-based element to their query before the search is conducted.

The demo indicates that users can modify the lookup after the fact, which might be necessary. Despite the feature evolving in beta versions, it is uncertain when users will see this feature rollout.

In other news, there is a possibility that Google will introduce split-screen support to its search function. Following Android 15 Beta 1.2, it was uncovered that Pixel phones could potentially receive this quality of life enhancement. Unlike Samsung devices, which already have this feature, it seems Google may have overlooked this during software development.
