Google Voice is set to roll out a fresh update that brings 3-way calling along with a significantly redesigned in-call user interface. However, it’s unfortunate that RCS support still isn’t available in Google Voice, and it seems unlikely that we’ll see it anytime soon.
With this update, users can finally initiate 3-way calls in Google Voice. Enhanced features, including “Add” and “Merge” buttons, allow you to connect additional callers and seamlessly merge conversation lines. This functionality is particularly useful for scenarios such as involving a translator or providing legal counsel, enhancing overall communication.
The revamped call interface boasts more accessible and prominent buttons, delivering a consistent look across Google Voice. Users can expect an intuitive layout reminiscent of Google Meet, along with improved placement for essential call controls.
This update is being rolled out gradually, starting as early as today, May 1. The updated user interface will be available to all users, while the 3-way calling feature is limited to those with Voice Starter, Voice Standard, Voice Premier subscriptions, as well as SIP Link Standard and SIP Link Premier customers.
But really, Google—when can we expect RCS support in Google Voice? We’ve been requesting it since at least 2020.
