About a year ago, Google introduced passkeys through Google Password Manager on Android, suggesting that they could provide a more secure way to log into devices. Since then, Google has continued to promote passkeys, partnering with other companies to facilitate the transition and enabling settings by default.
Previously, passkeys were only stored on Google Password Manager on Android, making it cumbersome to use them across different devices. However, Google has now announced that passkeys will be securely synced across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android devices, with ChromeOS testing the feature in beta and iOS support coming soon.
This update includes a new Google Password Manager PIN for added security, ensuring that passkeys remain encrypted and inaccessible to anyone, including Google. When setting up passkey syncing on a new device, users will need to enter this PIN or their Android device’s screen lock for enhanced security and ease of use.
