Google Messages may be updating to reduce the amount of compression applied to images.

Changes in the code of Google Messages indicate that there will be improved photo sharing quality soon. Currently, iOS 18 beta users can send high quality images with RCS, whereas Android users using Google Messages experience compression when sending photos. However, recent code updates suggest that new compression and resizing options are on the way.

The code reveals that images up to 8,192 pixels in size will be supported, a significant improvement from the previous limit of 1,600 pixels. With these changes, Android and iOS users will be able to share high quality images seamlessly. It is anticipated that Google will roll out this new RCS feature in time for the public release of iOS 18 later this year, enabling users from both platforms to enjoy better quality image sharing.
