Google Messages has announced that it will soon support message deletion for RCS (Rich Communication Services) users. This feature will allow users to delete messages that have been sent or received, providing more control over their conversations.

In July of last year, GSMA introduced Universal Profile 2.7 for RCS, which included new features such as the ability to delete sent messages. Google is now confirmed to be working on implementing this feature for users.

Code found in the latest beta build of Messages reveals strings for “Delete for me” and “Delete for everyone”, suggesting that users will soon have the option to delete messages that have already been sent. This feature will be particularly useful for avoiding embarrassment from drunk texts.

It is noted that all users will need to be using the latest version of Messages for this feature to function properly, which could be a challenge for those who neglect to update their applications. Additionally, Google will notify all chat participants when a message is deleted, either displaying “Message deleted by its author” or “Sender attempted to delete a message”.

There is no specific timeline for when Google will release this feature, but the fact that it is in development is a positive sign.
