Google Home devices are now equipped with Gemini instead of Assistant for their voice command functionality.

We are getting closer to the retirement of Google Assistant and the introduction of Gemini as the new assistant service on our devices. Google is actively promoting Gemini on phones and now testing it on Google Home devices.

Google has quietly started allowing select Google Home devices to switch from Google Assistant to Gemini in a Public Preview test. Owners of Nest Audio or Nest Mini (2nd Gen) can try out Gemini on their devices.

To switch to Gemini on Google Home devices, users need to enroll their Nest Audio or Nest Mini (2nd Gen) devices in the Google Home Public Preview and have Voice Match turned on. Google promises smarter and more helpful responses with Gemini, along with new voices and additional features.

Google suggests using Gemini on Nest Audio for learning more about topics, asking follow-up questions, and interrupting Google during responses. Users are encouraged to share their experiences with the Gemini-powered Home assistant.
