Google is expanding its AI model Gemini to reach a wider audience by including users of its Workspace Business and Enterprise plans.
In a recent announcement through Workspace Updates, Google revealed that Gemini is now available for users subscribed to Workspace Business and Enterprise plans. Users with Business Starter, Standard, and Plus plans received Gemini starting on January 15. According to Google, this update will impact Gmail, Docs, Meet, Drive, Sheets, Chat, and Slides. Additionally, Business and Enterprise users will have access to Gemini Advanced and NotebookLM Plus.
Google provided more information about Gemini’s introduction to Business and Enterprise users in a subsequent blog post.
The company mentioned that users will benefit from “simplified pricing” with the inclusion of AI software. For example, a Workspace Business Standard user currently paying $32 per month per user will see this cost reduced to $14 per month per user with the Gemini Business add-on. Google also shared an updated pricing table for users to refer to after this announcement. The post indicated that these pricing updates will take effect on March 17 “or at renewal date with an Annual/Fixed-term plan.”
In response to security concerns, Google assured users that their data, prompts, and generated responses are not used to train Gemini models outside of their domain without permission. The company also stated that user data is not sold for advertising purposes.
Users will retain control over their data, with Gemini only utilizing data that is provided by the user.
With the introduction of Gemini, users will notice new features in each Workspace app, such as the “help me write” feature in Gmail. This feature assists users in writing and improving emails, as well as adjusting the tone of their messages. Additionally, Gmail users will have access to AI-generated email and document summaries similar to those found in Docs.
Last year, Google introduced several other AI-based tools for Workspace, including auto-generated images, audio, and videos in Slides, as well as auto-completed analyses and formula generation in Sheets. Users can explore the full changelog with Gemini AI features in the updated Workspace post.
In addition to Gemini, Workspace Business and Enterprise users will have access to NotebookLM, which now offers Audio Overviews. These features provide users with two AI voices that serve as podcast co-hosts, condensing lengthy documents into easily digestible audio content. The AI is designed to draw connections and discuss the provided data.
In October, Google introduced an update that allows users to guide the AI in NotebookLM, enabling them to direct the flow of conversation and focus of the AI.
As Workspace Business users begin utilizing Gemini, the AI will be available to users of the Enterprise editions starting on January 29.
