Google has announced the discontinuation of production for both the Nest Protect and Nest x Yale Lock. If you currently own one of these products, here’s what you need to know.

Google kicked off the day by announcing the launch date of the Pixel 9a, followed by the news that they will no longer produce the Nest Protect and the Nest x Yale Lock. If you have these devices in your home, here are some key points to consider.

Google clarified that while they will discontinue the production of new Nest Protect devices, existing stock will still be available for purchase. If you need to replace your device soon, now is the time to do so. As long as your Nest Protect is not expired, it will continue to function normally and receive software updates.

In the future, Google will be collaborating with First Alert on the First Alert Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm as a recommended replacement for Nest Protect. This new device offers similar features, can be integrated with other Nest Protects, and is compatible with the Google Home app. Pre-orders for the new device are now available on First Alert’s website.

Similarly, for the Nest x Yale Lock, Google will cease production but will provide continued support with security updates. If you own or plan to purchase one before supplies run out, it should operate as usual. Google is partnering with Yale on a new Yale Smart Lock with Matter, set to launch this summer, as a replacement option.

If you have further inquiries about the discontinuation of these two products, Google has provided a FAQ on their website.
