I have a preference for Pixels, despite using many different phones throughout the year. When it comes to choosing a daily driver, I always gravitate towards a Pixel due to two main reasons: clean software and consistent cameras. While other Android skins have improved interfaces, I appreciate Google’s Material You design for its simplicity.
Although Google may not have the best cameras anymore, with phones like the Find X7 Ultra and Vivo X100 Ultra surpassing it, the Pixel 8 Pro still delivers the most reliable photos. It excels in portrait shots and capturing moving objects.

In Hardwired, AC Senior Editor Harish Jonnalagadda delves into all things hardware, including phones, audio products, storage servers, and routers.
However, Google phones do come with their own set of issues. From washed-out colors on the Pixel 2 XL panel to the easy breakage of the Pixel 3 XL, there have been various hardware-related problems over the years. Despite this, the Pixel 8 Pro stands out for its consistent performance in taking photos, especially when it comes to portraits and moving subjects.
Google’s focus on AI features with the Tensor G4 processor is commendable, but the lack of meaningful thermal management has led to issues like overheating and throttling, even in the latest Pixel 9 generation of devices.
There are also arbitrary decisions like featuring different hardware in the Indian models of the Pixel 9 series compared to the global versions. Google’s choice to exclude certain features like 8K video and Night Sight video from the standard model adds to the confusion.
Despite these drawbacks, the pricing of the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL models seems unjustified, especially with the base models starting at 128GB of storage. Compared to other brands offering more storage and RAM at similar price points, Google may need to reevaluate its pricing strategy.
It’s clear that Google is trying to position itself as a premium brand akin to Apple and Samsung, but without delivering the same level of features and value. As a result, some customers may find it difficult to justify the high price tags on Google’s latest devices.
