PRESS RELEASE
Apple to Invest Over $500 Billion in the U.S. Over the Next Four Years
Expansion of Teams and Facilities in Michigan, Texas, California, Arizona, Nevada, Iowa, Oregon, North Carolina, and Washington
Plans Include a New Factory in Texas, Doubling the U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund, Establishing a Manufacturing Academy, and Enhanced Investments in AI and Silicon Engineering
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA – Apple has announced its largest financial commitment to date, pledging to invest over $500 billion in the United States over the next four years. This initiative continues Apple’s longstanding tradition of investing in American innovation and high-skill manufacturing and will support various projects focusing on artificial intelligence, silicon engineering, and skills development for students and workers nationwide.
“We are optimistic about the future of innovation in America and are excited to deepen our investments with this $500 billion pledge to our nation,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “From enhancing our Advanced Manufacturing Fund to establishing advanced technology hubs in Texas, we look forward to bolstering American manufacturing. We are committed to collaborating with individuals and companies across the country to help create a remarkable new chapter in American innovation.”
As part of this investment initiative, Apple and its partners will establish a new advanced manufacturing facility in Houston to produce servers that will support Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system designed to assist users in writing, expressing themselves, and accomplishing tasks. Additionally, Apple will double its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund, establish a manufacturing academy in Michigan to cultivate the next generation of U.S. manufacturers, and increase its research and development investments in cutting-edge sectors such as silicon engineering.
This $500 billion commitment encompasses Apple’s collaboration with thousands of suppliers in all 50 states, its direct employment initiatives, infrastructure and data centers for Apple Intelligence, corporate facilities, and Apple TV+ productions in 20 states. Apple is one of the largest taxpayers in the U.S., having contributed over $75 billion in taxes in the last five years, including $19 billion in 2024 alone.
Currently, Apple supports over 2.9 million jobs throughout the United States via direct employment, partnerships with U.S.-based suppliers and manufacturers, and developer jobs within the flourishing iOS app economy.
Introducing a New Manufacturing Facility in Houston
As part of its new U.S. investment plan, Apple will collaborate with manufacturing partners to commence server production in Houston later this year. A new 250,000-square-foot server manufacturing facility is scheduled to open in 2026 and will generate thousands of jobs.
Previously manufactured abroad, these servers will now be assembled in Houston and are essential for powering Apple Intelligence. They serve as the backbone of Private Cloud Compute, which merges robust AI processing with the most advanced security architecture ever implemented on a large scale for AI cloud computing. These servers integrate years of research and development by Apple engineers, providing industry-leading security and performance based on Apple silicon.
Apple’s design of these servers emphasizes energy efficiency, further reducing the energy demands of its data centers, which already operate on 100% renewable energy. As Apple expands Apple Intelligence services across the U.S., it also plans to enhance its data center capacities in North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Arizona, and Nevada.
Doubling Apple’s U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund
In line with the new investment strategy, Apple is increasing its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund, originally established in 2017 to foster world-class innovation and high-skilled manufacturing jobs in America. The commitment will expand the fund from $5 billion to $10 billion, with a focus on promoting advanced manufacturing and skills development throughout the nation.
This expansion includes a substantial multibillion-dollar investment from Apple to produce advanced silicon at TSMC’s Fab 21 facility in Arizona. Apple ranks as the largest client at this cutting-edge facility, which employs over 2,000 workers and is dedicated to manufacturing chips in the United States. Mass production of Apple chips began last month.
The silicon manufactured for Apple is engineered to deliver exceptional features, performance, and power efficiency across devices. Currently, Apple suppliers are producing silicon in 24 factories across 12 states, including Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, and Utah, generating thousands of high-paying jobs nationwide in companies like Broadcom, Texas Instruments, Skyworks, and Qorvo.
Thus far, Apple’s U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund has supported projects in 13 states, including Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Indiana, boosting local businesses, training workers, and developing a variety of innovative manufacturing processes for Apple products.
Expanding R&D Investments Across the U.S.
Apple continues to increase its research and development investments in the U.S. Over the past five years, Apple has nearly doubled its advanced R&D spending and intends to maintain this growth trajectory.
Recently, Apple unveiled the latest addition to its iPhone lineup, the iPhone 16e, which offers rapid and seamless performance along with revolutionary battery life, attributed to the remarkable efficiency of the A18 chip and the new Apple C1 — the first cellular modem designed by Apple, which is the most power-efficient modem ever in an iPhone. The Apple C1 represents a new chapter in Apple silicon development, resulting from extensive R&D and collaboration among thousands of engineers. This modem paves the way for future innovations and optimizations across additional Apple products.
In the next four years, Apple anticipates hiring approximately 20,000 individuals, predominantly in R&D, silicon engineering, software development, and AI and machine learning roles. The heightened commitment will include significant investments in Apple’s R&D centers nationwide, enhancing teams focused on custom silicon, hardware engineering, software development, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
Supporting American Businesses with a New Manufacturing Academy in Detroit
To assist companies in transitioning to advanced manufacturing, Apple plans to launch the Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit. Apple engineers, alongside experts from top universities such as Michigan State, will provide consulting services to small and medium-sized enterprises on implementing AI and smart manufacturing techniques. The academy will offer free in-person and online courses centered around skills development, teaching workers critical skills such as project management and manufacturing process optimization. These courses aim to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality within companies’ supply chains.
Apple has long upheld its commitment to investing in education and skill development for American workers and students. This effort includes ongoing and expanding grant programs for organizations like 4-H, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and FIRST, partnering closely with Apple in communities across the country to create free programs that help young people acquire essential skills like coding.
Additionally, Apple’s support for the next generation of innovators extends to the New Silicon Initiative, which prepares students for careers in hardware engineering and silicon chip design. Last year, this program expanded to students at Georgia Tech and now serves students in eight educational institutions nationwide. Apple is continuously enhancing the initiative, including a new collaboration with UCLA’s Center for Education of Microchip Designers (CEMiD) starting this year.
