CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA – Today, Apple announced the launch of the new Mac Studio, marking it as the most powerful Mac ever produced, featuring the cutting-edge M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips. This state-of-the-art pro desktop is designed for those who demand high performance, now offering enhanced connectivity through Thunderbolt 5, leading to incredible advancements in a compact, quiet design suited for any workspace. The Mac Studio is engineered to handle heavy workloads, boasting a powerful CPU, Apple’s sophisticated graphics infrastructure, increased unified memory of up to 512GB, and rapid SSD storage, alongside a highly efficient Neural Engine. Users will notice significant performance improvements over the previous generation and a remarkable upgrade for those transitioning from older Mac models.
With its advanced GPU and up to 512GB of unified memory powered by the M3 Ultra chip—unmatched in personal computing—the Mac Studio excels at AI applications, managing large language models (LLMs) with over 600 billion parameters entirely in memory. Mac Studio with M4 Max: A Performance Powerhouse
The Mac Studio with the M4 Max is an ideal choice for video editors, colorists, developers, engineers, and other professionals who require exceptional processing power for intensive tasks, featuring extraordinary single-thread and multi-thread CPU performance. This machine includes an up to 16-core CPU, up to 40-core GPU, over 500GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, and a Neural Engine that is more than three times faster than the M1 Max. It is capable of running AI models rapidly and boasts up to 3.5 times the speed compared to the M1 Max, and up to 6.1 times faster than the most powerful Intel-based 27-inch iMac.
M4 Max integrates Apple’s advanced graphics technologies, including dynamic caching and next-generation ray-tracing, allowing for seamless content creation and gaming. Beginning with 36GB of unified memory expandable to 128GB, the Mac Studio can efficiently handle everything from managing large photo collections to producing complex audio compositions in real time. It is up to 2.6 times quicker than the M1 Ultra and up to 6.4 times faster than the Intel Xeon W-based Mac Pro. This model features an up to 32-core CPU—24 of which are performance cores—marking a first for any Ultra chip, alongside an 80-core GPU, a potent 32-core Neural Engine for on-device AI, and a high-bandwidth memory architecture that provides over 800GB/s of unified memory bandwidth.
Starting with 96GB of unified memory, scalable up to 512GB—the highest ever in a personal computer—along with up to 16TB of rapid SSD storage, users can efficiently manage extensive amounts of data. Thunderbolt 5: High-Bandwidth Connectivity and Expansion
With the introduction of Thunderbolt 5, the Mac Studio achieves transfer speeds of up to 120 Gb/s—three times faster than previous models—facilitating quicker connections to external storage and other peripherals.
