Apple Introduces Groundbreaking Immersive Concert Experience with Metallica for Apple Vision Pro
The newest offering in Apple Immersive Video launches on March 14, featuring classic hits from one of the world’s most legendary bands, with previews available at Apple Store locations.
The highly anticipated Apple Immersive concert experience, Metallica, will debut on the Apple Vision Pro this Friday, March 14. Recorded live in Mexico City during the sold-out finale of the band’s M72 World Tour, Metallica showcases full performances of three of their iconic songs — “Whiplash,” “One,” and “Enter Sandman.” This exclusive filming is made possible only through Apple Immersive Video, combining ultra-high-resolution 180-degree visuals with Spatial Audio, allowing viewers a unique experience with James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo — from close-up views in the famed Snake Pit to expansive shots of their dynamic stage setup.
Customers can schedule a demo of Apple Vision Pro at their nearest Apple Store to immerse themselves in spatial computing and enjoy an extended preview of Metallica starting this Friday. Additionally, fans can listen to the band’s performance in a new EP, M72 World Tour: Mexico City, released in Spatial Audio on Apple Music this Friday.
“Calling it game-changing is an understatement,” remarked Lars Ulrich of Metallica. “Experiencing our concert like this, combined with the incredible energy from the Mexico City audience — it feels deeply immersive and absolutely thrilling. We’ve always sought to break new ground, and Metallica on Apple Vision Pro embodies that spirit.”
“Apple Immersive Video revolutionizes storytelling, and we are delighted to partner with Metallica to create a concert experience like no other,” stated Tor Myhren, Apple’s Vice President of Marketing Communications. “With Metallica on Apple Vision Pro, you’ll feel as if you’re right there: front row, backstage, and even on stage alongside one of the biggest bands in history.”
To capture the entire performance from various angles, Apple designed a custom stage setup featuring 14 Apple Immersive Video cameras, utilizing a combination of stabilized cameras, cable-suspended units, and remote-controlled dolly systems that moved throughout the stage.
Lars Ulrich recently spoke with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about the immersive concert experience, the band’s unwavering dedication to their fans, and the upcoming leg of the M72 World Tour at SXSW 2025. “I’ve been a music enthusiast all my life, and I’ve never witnessed anything like this,” said Lowe. “It’s not just the best seat in the house — it’s as if you’re in the sole seat on stage.” The full discussion will be available on the SXSW YouTube channel.
