Apple is gearing up to offer iPadOS apps on alternative app stores in the EU.

European iPad owners in the EU will soon have the option to download iPadOS apps from third-party app storefronts starting September 16. While iPhone users in the EU already have this option, iPad owners will now be able to do the same. Apple recently announced changes to iPadOS 18 apps distributed in the EU, including the addition of iPadOS to Notarization in their App Review Guidelines. This process ensures that apps are safe, secure, and ready for distribution through alternative app marketplaces.

Starting September 16, iPad users in the EU can download iPadOS apps from the App Store and alternative storefronts. Developers who have agreed to the Alternative Terms Addendum for Apps in the EU will begin to accrue annual installs of iPadOS apps, with a lower App Store commission rate applying to these apps.

Additionally, on the same day, alternative browser engines will be usable in iPadOS apps, and historical App Install Reports in App Store Connect will include iPadOS. Apple advises developers to stay updated on agreements related to third-party app storefronts, as the latest versions now support iPadOS.
