Apple is allegedly developing its M6 and M7 chips.

The M5-powered MacBook Pro is anticipated to launch in 2025, with M6 and M7 chips expected in the following years.

Apple’s M5 chip is expected to debut in late 2025 for the Mac and iPad, with the M6 and M7 chips also in development alongside a new AI server processor.

The current M4 chip was launched in May 2024, first appearing in the iPad Pro, and subsequently in devices like the iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro by October. The MacBook Air followed in March 2025.

Similar to the M4, the M5 chip is set to debut in the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro by the end of 2025. A recent report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple is also working on several other chips for future iPad and Mac releases.

The report outlines the M6 chip, codenamed “Komodo,” and the M7, referred to internally as “Borneo.” Additionally, there is an advanced system-on-a-chip for Macs in development, known as “Sotra,” although details remain sparse.

Apple is also reportedly planning new AI server chips to succeed the M2 Ultra, currently used for processing remote Apple Intelligence requests. A December 2024 report noted collaboration with Broadcom, with the project said to be dubbed “Baltra” and expected to be completed by 2027.

The tech giant is experimenting with chips that potentially feature two to six times the CPU and GPU cores of the M3 Ultra, aiming to enhance Apple Intelligence capabilities.

However, reports about Apple’s AI initiatives have varied widely. A March 2025 report suggested investments in Nvidia AI servers, while an April 2025 rumor hinted at a potential partnership with a Japanese chip manufacturer for Apple Intelligence.

Regarding the M5 chip, prior reports indicate it will launch in the MacBook Pro, which is not expected to undergo a redesign in 2025. An M5-powered iPad Pro is also in the testing phase.

The M5 may additionally be integrated into the Apple Vision Pro in 2025.
