Apple today announced the launch of the new Black Unity Collection, created to honor Black History Month and celebrate Black culture and community. Drawing inspiration from the rhythm of humanity, the collection features a special-edition Apple Watch Black Unity Sport Loop, a corresponding watch face, and exclusive wallpapers for iPhone and iPad.
As part of this initiative, Apple is supporting various global organizations focused on rhythm, creativity, and community. This includes grants to the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans, Battersea Arts Centre in London, Music Forward Foundation in Los Angeles, Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, and The National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, Tennessee. This support reinforces Apple’s ongoing commitment to enhancing economic, educational, and creative opportunities in communities worldwide.
The design of the new collection was a collaboration among Black creatives and allies at Apple. Titled Unity Rhythm, it incorporates the colors of the Pan-African flag—black, green, and red. The Black Unity Sport Loop features a unique pattern of raised and recessed loops, creating a lenticular effect that reveals green on one side of each loop and red on the other. When worn, the band presents a dynamic display of color, transitioning from green to red as the wearer moves their wrist, with touches of yellow appearing in the transition, adding a touch of magic.
