Android Auto Introduces Climate Controls, But Support Depends on Your Vehicle

Google is enhancing Android Auto with newly uncovered climate control features. Recent code updates indicate that drivers and passengers may soon be able to adjust temperatures, activate heated seats, and make other adjustments directly through the interface.

Of course, your vehicle must be compatible, and we don’t yet have a confirmed list of supported models. Nonetheless, this represents significant progress for Android Auto. In contrast, Android Automotive, which comes pre-installed in cars, already supports these features. We’re eager to see how this will work with Android Auto, likely requiring a relatively newer vehicle equipped with the necessary hardware to respond to the commands.

The user interface suggests that dual-zone climate control will be available, allowing drivers and passengers to set their own preferences. Additionally, there will be a sync climate button when supported, along with options for heated and cooled seats, defrosting, fan speed adjustments, and more.

It’s uncertain when these features will be officially rolled out, but there’s a possibility that the Android Auto team might unveil details at Google I/O. Regardless, I can’t help but think these controls would look a bit cramped on my car’s small 8-inch screen.
