Analyst forecasts reduced interest in iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models due to lower demand.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus appear to be the top sellers for the debut weekend.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s high-end iPhone 16 models are experiencing lower demand compared to the regular iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus. Kuo estimates that Apple sold around 37 million units of the new iPhones during the debut weekend, marking a 12.7 percent decrease from the previous iPhone 15 lineup.

The iPhone 16 Plus, priced at $899, has seen a 48 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year, while the regular iPhone 16 has seen a 10 percent rise in initial sales. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Pro, starting at $999, has experienced a 27 percent decrease in sales, and the Pro Max, priced at $1199, has seen a 16 percent decline, as per Kuo’s analysis.

One possible factor influencing the sales figures could be the gradual rollout of Apple Intelligence features over the coming months. Additionally, the delayed availability of a key iOS 18 feature may also be affecting initial sales, although there is still strong interest in the Plus model and some preference for larger-sized iPhones like the Pro Max.

Kuo suggests that Apple doubled production of the initial iPhone 16 Pro Max units compared to the previous model, with six million units prepared for launch. While Apple typically does not disclose specific sales numbers, it remains to be seen if the current sales trend will continue or shift once the new iPhones hit stores. The holiday season is expected to influence early demand for the new iPhone models, with changes in the top sellers likely to occur by the end of Apple’s fiscal first quarter.
